PROGRAM 

Bob Hanger introduced Randy Coleman who works at the Community Health Club and is on the television show, “Let’s Eat”. Randy talked about some of the health problems in San Angelo and around the country. Obesity is a problem with all the states. He said to look for a shortages of doctors in San Angelo in the next 5 years. Internal medicine will suffer the most since most of those doctors are retiring at an early age. He indicated that with the eating habits of the younger generation and lack of exercise not to be surprised to see more people in the 18 to 20 year old category having heart attacks. The best thing we can do to eat healthier is to watch what we eat and the portions. Cutting back on portions will help more than anything else. All foods are good when used in the right way and all foods can be bad if overindulged. Two of the things we need to look out for in our food are trans fats and Omega 6. Omega 6 is in 20% of our foods and can cause joint inflammation. In the early 1900’s, there were 250 different choices of food and now there are over 60,000. It is so easy to buy high calorie foods which make it difficult to eat healthy. The best way not to see a doctor is to eat healthy and stay active (exercise).
